Aurora

On the night of 10 to 11 May 2024 a remarkable spectacle unfolded in the sky over all of Europe: the aurora was visible at an extraordinary intensity, reaching even southern regions such as Tyrol, Italy and Switzerland. This phenomenon was caused by a strong G5 geomagnetic storm. The green, purple and pink veils in the sky offered a rare display that is normally only seen at northern latitudes. In astronomical terms this was remarkable, as it impressively demonstrated the strength and activity of the Sun. It was an unforgettable sight that vividly conveyed the beauty and fascination of the universe — an experience one probably has only once in a lifetime.
