Processing 2024:
Hickson 44, also known as the Leo Quartet, is a striking group of galaxies in the constellation Leo. Its main members are NGC 3185, NGC 3187, NGC 3190 and NGC 3193. These closely spaced galaxies, about 80 to 100 million light years away, show conspicuous structures caused by their gravitational interactions. NGC 3185 is a spiral galaxy, while NGC 3187 and NGC 3190 are barred spiral galaxies. NGC 3193 appears as an elliptical galaxy.
Looking more closely at the image, hundreds of further galaxies can be found.
