NGC 1499 – California Nebula

The California Nebula (NGC 1499) is an emission nebula in the constellation Perseus. It spans about 2.5 degrees of sky and shows glowing, reddish gas clouds produced by ionised hydrogen gas. The nebula lies about 1,000 light years from Earth and belongs to the Perseus molecular cloud, a region of interstellar matter and active star formation.
