NGC 891, also known as Caldwell 23, is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Andromeda, some 30 million light-years away.
As we are viewing the galaxy almost exactly edge-on, its narrow disc, with its distinctive dark dust lane, is particularly easy to make out. NGC 891 is similar in structure to our Milky Way and displays dust structures that extend far beyond the galactic disc.
